Logistics/Itinerary

We depart on a Sunday at 9am from my home and drive to Pilanesberg National Park which is about a 2-2.5 hour drive and meet at manyane gate. We then make our way to the allocated “camping area” where we will offload the equipment etc and set up “camp”. A short walk into the wilderness in the afternoon is enjoyed by all. Afterwards, we all prepare dinner together and an interesting conversation about many topics takes place around the fire. Because of an early wakeup, we retire to sleep as soon as possible. Each person has a rewarding opportunity to spend about an hour of private time with themselves and the wilderness as well as having the responsibility of overseeing the safety of everyone in the camp since it is unfenced. The
second day is a repeat of the first day where there are generally 2 walks-AM and PM depending on time of year and weather conditions.

The last day commences with a short walk in the morning with a period of time given to all to be alone with themselves. After which we group together to share ideas and thoughts.

Once the camp is packed up and cleared which is normally about early afternoon, we depart for our return journey to Joburg with many memories to last a lifetime.

It is very important to bear in mind that time in the bush has its own agenda and the above times stipulated are just guidelines. For example, a sighting of elephants can easily delay us for many reasons for up to an hour or two.

The “camp” is very basic in its entirety and most of the trappings of modern life are unavailable.

I had the honour and privilege of doing a 3 day bush walk with Laurie. His knowledge, guidance and passion were infectious. It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever been on and I would certainly recommend and insist that everybody does this trip at least once.

The cold days, night watch in the middle of the night, no cell phone reception and the bonding with my son-I will jump to repeat this awesome adventure. Thank you for giving me this memory.

It was a wonderful opportunity to get back in touch with nature and experience the quiet of the bush in a special & unique way. Highly recommended.

COLIN ABRAMS

My experience on the walking trail with two armed rangers and six brave comrades was awesome. Even though it rained for three days, it did not dampen our spirits. I was really impressed with Laurie’s passion and in-depth knowledge of the fauna & flora in the reserve. Due to Laurie’s guidance & game ranging knowledge, the trip was an incredibly exciting and educational experience. I will certainly do it again the next time the opportunity comes my way.

CRAIG FUHR

I had a fantastic time with our qualified Lead guide, trainee guide (Laurie) and the guys. The very quite location as well as duration of time spent in the bush gave me a good ‘feel’ of the fauna and flora. The ranger was very knowledgeable and helpful and I saw how much you were learning from him as well as imparting your own knowledge and understanding of what we all saw and heard. Overall, it was a great trip-well organized and well lead by both the ranger & yourself. The biggest approbation I could give is that I would highly recommend the trip to anyone who is interested in wildlife and the bush.

STEVEN LOWENSTEIN

I recently traveled to Africa for my midwinter vacation. I had a blast on my Pilanesberg trip-excellent company and great guides. The overall experience was something I won’t soon forget.

AVI WEXLER

My experience in the bush was eye-opening, challenging and exciting in so many different ways. The efficient organization, sense of safety & experience and feeling of camaraderie dispelled my fears and insecurity. The opportunities to learn so much about our natural surroundings, human nature and my own feelings gave me a tremendously inspirational and uplifting experience which was just what I needed at that particular time in my life. Laurie’s leadership, huge smile and heart infused our group with a sense of unity, fun & mutual support.

LESLIE SHAPIRO

The Pilanesberg walking trail was an experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life. The thrill of walking close to rhino, elephant and other big game with only the grass and trees between us was unforgettable as was the experience of sleeping out in the bush. The extensive bush knowledge of the rangers added to the whole experience.

HOWARD BROWN

My walking trail in the Pilanesberg was truly an unforgettable experience. Sleeping under the stars and being able to be completely one with nature is something that I believe everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime. Walking in the bush with no cell phone reception & no contact with the outside world really put things into perspective & helps you appreciate the world that we live in. In the fast-paced world we live in, this trip is a true escape.
